- What is the “allocation model” and what is it made of?
- Why doesn’t the “allocation model” contain individual shares?
As mentioned above, the allocation model gives the optimal sector and geographic diversification for which your portfolio should respond to, taking into account your investment profile. This diversification is indicated in percentages in the allocation model. This is in fact the Asset Allocation of your portfolio.
Most of the financial experts agree that a good “Asset Allocation” is mainly responsible for the global performance of equity portfolios.
This “Asset Allocation” is on the whole very stable (only some adaptations per year) and applicable for all investors having the same investment profile: we assume e.g. that all conservative investors should invest for 10% in the European Financial sector. In this example BNP-Paribas, ABN-Amro as well as ING answer to this criteria and are therefore equivalent on an “Asset allocation” point of view.
Only after having an optimal “Asset Allocation”, it will be useful to initiate stock picking. This stock picking happens with the help of several criteria (ratios, analysts’ recommendations, technical analysis, fundamental analysis, etc ...) which, opposite from the allocation model (Asset Allocation) is done on a daily basis. - Is the “allocation model” regularly updated?
